3ptalks 04: Highlights from the Sustainable Food and Agriculture Webinar

3pmetrics’ fourth 3ptalks webinar in its sustainability-focused series, 3ptalks 04: Sustainable Food and Agriculture, took place on Friday, January 17. In the first webinar of the year, we focused on sustainability in the food and agriculture sector. Risks and potential opportunities faced by the Food & Agriculture ecosystem were addressed by expert speakers.

During the webinar, many important topics were covered—from sustainability reporting and data collection processes to supply chain management and carbon footprint calculations. With participants sharing their experiences, the session became an inspiring and enjoyable 3ptalks gathering.

What was discussed in 3ptalks 04?

Opportunities in Sustainability and the Food & Agriculture Ecosystem in 2025

Mert Güller, 3pmetrics Co-Founder, presented a comprehensive sustainability framework for the food and agriculture sector for 2025. In the first session, the impact of regulations and market dynamics on the sector was discussed, along with key insights on how stakeholders can adapt to these changes.

According to World Economic Forum data, global population is expected to reach 10 billion by 2050. With this growth, global food demand is expected to increase by 70%. Based on these data and scenarios, Mert Güller emphasized how critical it is to make existing agricultural lands and supply chains more efficient and resilient to meet the rising demand. He also highlighted the need to convert sustainability-related risks arising from the supply chain in agriculture and food into concrete action plans for companies.

Corporate Experiences in the Sustainability Reporting Process

Güler Ceyhan, R&D and Sustainability Director at Kervan Gıda, shared corporate experiences and good-practice examples gained during Kervan Gıda’s sustainability reporting process as a leading soft candy producer in Turkey.

Noting the critical importance of collecting accurate and reliable data to reduce environmental impact, Güler Ceyhan emphasized that data collection processes play a major role in making strategic decisions and achieving sustainability goals. She also explained that these processes build not only environmental but also economic and social sustainability. In her words, sustainability is not only a target—it is a strategic journey:

Sustainability is not just a goal—it is a strategic journey that redefines how we do business.

She further stressed that the transformation process—built through projects carried out together with employees and suppliers—creates lasting and effective change not only for the company, but for all stakeholders.

With the projects we run together with our employees and suppliers, we build not just today—but tomorrow—for a sustainable future.

Finally, Güler Ceyhan highlighted the importance of upper management support, effectively managing education processes, and establishing a committee with key internal stakeholders as the first steps to be taken in the sustainability journey.

Sustainability Practices in the Supply Chain

Ömer Oktay, Sustainability Manager at Voicevale, discussed the sustainability initiatives and strategies implemented in Voicevale’s supply chain. Voicevale is an international company specialized in the import and distribution of hazelnuts, dried fruits, seeds, and coffee for industries worldwide.

Ömer Oktay started by drawing attention to the challenges encountered in supply chain management and noted that supplier motivation is far more important than expected. He shared that supply chain activities must be clearly defined, suppliers properly mapped, trainings provided, and risk prioritized. He also underlined that reaching sustainability goals is possible not only through technological solutions, but also through strong collaborations and proper stakeholder management.

He emphasized stakeholder mapping as a key enabling factor—believing it is one of the biggest helpers when building partnerships based on sector and topic to implement sustainability strategy.

In addition, he pointed out that measures to analyze environmental impacts and reduce this impact must be both realistic and sustainable—economically and socially feasible in practice.

In this session, it was also emphasized that all processes—from the field to the end consumer in food production—should be addressed holistically, and that every actor has responsibility in reducing impacts on both the environment and human health.

An Agricultural Carbon Footprint Calculation Tool: agriCO2

Cemil Alpay Sünnetci introduced agriCO2, the carbon footprint calculation tool for agricultural products developed by 3pmetrics. Highlighting the difficulties of data collection in the agricultural sector—especially obtaining data from farmers—Cemil Alpay Sünnetci explained how agriCO2 makes this process easier.

agriCO2 enables more straightforward data collection with a “farm-to-factory/field-to-table” approach, allowing companies to manage their carbon footprints accurately.

Finally, Cemil Alpay Sünnetci provided examples explaining how agricultural companies can track carbon footprints effectively at the field and product level with agriCO2, and how meaningful environmental benefits can be delivered through simple strategic decisions derived from analyses.
